The Student-Led Conference (SLC) at Harrow Hong Kong Children School Shenzhen Qianhai (HHKCS) is not a mere formality. It is about returning the voice of learning to the children, empowering them to become the true masters of their own education. Through this process, they learn to reflect, to express themselves, and to take ownership of their learning. It also offers parents an opportunity to look beyond grades and truly listen to their children’s voices.
On July 9, the SLC for Grades 1–9 at HHKCS officially commenced.
Each session lasts 15 minutes, during which students select their learning outcomes from 2–3 subjects and independently present to their parents in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin. Their presentation covers: highlights and achievements from this semester, current challenges and areas for improvement, self-correction strategies and reflective summaries, as well as clear learning goals for the next stage.
There is no polite teacher commentary or one-way lecture about grades. Instead, the session is 100% authentic student self-reflection, demonstration of achievements, analysis of challenges, and articulation of actionable goals.
One mother shared after the conference: “I’m so glad that through this opportunity, I was able to gain a detailed understanding of what my daughter has been learning at school and how she learns. I used to focus only on her grades, but today I truly ‘saw’ her growth.”
The most valuable significance of this parent-teacher conference was never about understanding grades, but about allowing parents to truly see how their children learn, how they think, and how they make progress. It marks a shift from passively listening in class to actively taking charge of learning; from merely completing tasks to knowing how to self-check and self-correct; from fearing exposure of weaknesses to daring to face problems head-on and plan proactively.
More important than a report card are the abilities to think, to reflect, to express, and to self-regulate—these are the true foundations that will benefit a child for life.
Growth never happens in silence. Every time a child presents their learning independently, it leaves behind the clearest evidence of how far they’ve come.
