Arrows of Light, Futures Bright | Paralympic Champions Inspire Courage and Growth at HHKCS

On December 11, Shenzhen Qianhai Harrow Hong Kong Children’s School (hereinafter referred to as “HHKCS”) received a special honour: Ms. Lin Yueshan and Ms. Chen Minyi, who had just represented Team Guangdong at the 15th National Games in Guangzhou, visited the school together with their coach, Mr. Cai Jianbing.

Carrying with them the fighting spirit fresh from the National Games arena, they shared with our teachers and students their inspiring journey of chasing dreams—from domestic competitions all the way to the pinnacle of the Olympics.

Dr. John Tan, Headmaster of HHKCS, paid the highest tribute on behalf of the school to the two distinguished athletes returning from the National Games.

Dr. Tan presented souvenirs to Lin Yueshan, Chen Minyi and Coach Cai, with students offering flowers to celebrate their National Games and international triumphs.

Amidst the eager gaze of the entire school community, the two athletes, who had just returned from the National Games, made their triumphant entrance.

Ms Lin Yueshan was a historic ‘gold medallist’ at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics.

Ms Chen Minyi, a ‘sharp-shooter’ who won gold at both the Tokyo and Paris Paralympics, also demonstrated her world-class form at the National Games.

Their arrival will instil in the people of Harrow Harbour both the spirit of competition from the National Games and the exemplary demeanour of Olympic champions.

During the sharing session, Ms Lin Yueshan gave a talk entitled ‘Using the Arrow as a Beacon, Growing Towards the Sun’, in which she recounted her entire journey—from daily training and competing in the National Games to winning Olympic gold.

Ms Chen Minyi shared her conviction in striving for her dreams. From the decade-long refinement of her craft to the glory of winning four gold medals across two Paralympic Games, she embodied the fighting spirit encapsulated by the motto: ‘Not only must we win, but we must win with style.’

Coach Cai Jianbing gave the students a clear explanation of the different classifications and rules governing Paralympic archery, and invited the two champions, Lin Yueshan and Chen Minyi, to take up compound bows on stage and demonstrate the standard archery stance for compound bows to the audience in the hall.

From standing firmly and steady, raising the bow and drawing the string, to focusing on the target, the sequence of movements flowed seamlessly, exuding both power and grace.

The event drew to a successful close with a group photograph of the entire audience. This image, which brings together the glory of the Olympics, the spirit of the National Games and the vitality of campus life, not only captured the moment when Harrow Hong Kong students stood alongside champions, but also deeply embedded the values of ‘courage, honour, humility and mutual support’, as well as the international sporting spirit of striving for excellence, into the formative memories of every student.

From the Olympic Games to the National Games, from the competition venues in Shenzhen to the Harlow Hong Kong auditorium, every appearance embodies ‘courage’, every medal stands as a testament to ‘honour’, every shared experience conveys the power of ‘humility’, and every story weaves the bonds of ‘mutual support’.

Wherever this glory reaches, it sows not only the seeds of determination but also instils in the children’s hearts an eternal pursuit of excellence. May the light brought by these champions continue to shine and grow wherever Harrow pupils tread, ultimately blossoming into a unique radiance on their respective life stages.
