Warmest welcome to Mr. Alastair Land, Head Master of Harrow School in the UK, on his first visit to Harrow Hong Kong Children School Shenzhen Qianhai (HHKCS)! This visit not only reinforces Harrow’s global educational legacy but also signifies a meaningful step in the implementation of our dual-track education philosophy within the Greater Bay Area.
The visit commenced with an elegant tea ceremony, reflecting East-West harmony. In the serene reception area, a tea master performed the traditional Kung Fu tea ceremony. Mr Land observed with keen interest, savoured the tea, and nodded in appreciation—an embodiment of cultural dialogue between Eastern refinement and Western etiquette.
In his welcome address, Dr. John Tan, Founding School Head of HHKCS, remarked that although the two schools are separated by 9,600 kilometres, they are closely aligned through shared Harrow values. He expressed the hope that Mr. Land would carry with him a recognition of the dedication shown by HHKCS students and staff in upholding the Harrow spirit and traditions within the unique context of Shenzhen, China.
Mr. Land spoke highly of the school’s educational practices, which enrich the meaning of being a Harrovian through living out the Harrow values. He encouraged students to become ‘the best version of themselves’ and lay a solid foundation for future collaboration and innovation.
During his visit, Mr. Land enjoyed a musical performance that blended Eastern and Western traditions, and observed a roundtable discussion where teachers and students exchanged insights on topics such as the dual-track IB/DSE curriculum and trilingual education. The school also demonstrated the robotics and robot dog project to Mr. Land, highlighting the school’s groundbreaking STEM programme achieved through its East-meets-West educational philosophy and commitment to holistic education.
This visit was not only a gathering across geographical boundaries, but also a profound dialogue on educational philosophy and cultural heritage. As a key member of this global network, HHKCS remains committed to holistic education and nurturing lifelong learners with sustainable growth capabilities. This encounter has further strengthened mutual understanding and injected renewed confidence and momentum into HHKCS’s ongoing innovation within the global educational landscape.
